Drama?

I'm new to this kind of movies, and I need some help from the viewers who watched and enjoyed every minute of it. I wonder if anyone saw it before actually seeing the Killing Fields and how much they got out of it.

Secondly, I don't quite understand how the whole "Spalding Gray sits behind a desk throughout the entire film" thing can be called a drama. A monologue, a one-man show, maybe even a documentary, but a drama??? I also find Demme a great director, but I don't know much about stage direction, what is so great about it in this one? His work has been praised many times on this board, but can someone tell me what's great about STC besides Gray's impressive narration?

Thank you!

P.S. I didn't watch the whole thing, because I actually wanted to watch The Killing Fields first, today I bought a DVD, and I'm going to see STC afterwards.

insinyur: I'm a little drunk right now (it's 1:43am on a Saturday night, Los Angeles time and I'm 4sheets to the wind) but you have touched on a topic that is very near-n-dear to me. The fact that no one else has responded yet compells me to answer you ... soon. Thank you for your open-minded question -- this fan will answer you as soon as the wine wears off. Until then, I'm interested in what you thought of THE KILLING FIELDS.
