ending was hateful

the ending, with the door getting closed the Cher's laughters was abosulutely hateful. ideas?

reply

Ideas? It was a very sweet ending, they're finally getting together!

reply

Oh Right!
I had forgotten about that bit ie. that they were wanting to get together and couldn't!

Agreed, I thought the ending was great, the way it was.

"I am the ultimate badass, you do not wanna `*beep*` wit me!"- Hudson in Aliens.

I thought it was kind of cute, but I can see your point. After all that drama and major upheaval at the end, I guess it did seem a little...I dunno. Rushed and overly simplified? Maybe it was kind of sugary. What do you think would have been a better way to end it?

I think maybe if they'd ended it with at least a scroll telling us what justice was done after the trial would have been nice. (Would be more specific but I don't want to give spoilers.)

Yates gave that ending to Cher, after she suggested it. I guess they were all a little giddy at the end of this dark mystery, and thought it would give the audiences a release or whatnot. It's too bad they didn't make a more natural end, but it's cute enough not to be "hateful", subtract from the film's many virtues.

Come on, everybody, see Séraphine!

The whole picture was totally unbelievable so who cares about the ending? Thank God it was only a movie.

It was an often contrived, but always solidly and ingeniously contrived, suspense thriller.
...pmiano100, oh ye of little belief, I hope you don't really believe (Re:"Thank God it was only a movie") that jury-tampering wasn't/isn't a real problem in actual court cases, or that the events depicted in this excelent movie are beyond the scope of the probable in trials today and since....

reply

Sorry, but it was just too contrived to be believable. In real life crime is far more banal. I grant you movies need dramatic license, but I can only take so much,

The final scene was indeed a release: Cher's character is getting the recognition she deserves, plus she gets the guy. I was worried about Liam Neeson's Carl though. She hugs him in the courtroom, but where would he go from there?

reply

In real life she would have had to deal with the ethics committee of the ABA.

Carl will go back to the streets or face charges for beating up the baliff, who was only doing his job and apparently had no part in the murder.
