Is this movie so bad, its kinda good?

Yes, same as most Troma films...

And the Sex Pistols.

THIS MOVIE IS NOT GREAT BEACUSE ITS SO-BAD-ITS-GOOD...
I LIKED IT BEACUSE ITS GOT GREAT MUSIC, STUPID PREMISE, AND FOR THE FACT THAT IT DOESNT TAKE ITSELF SERIOUSLY... ITS ALMOST SURREAL... AND MOST OF IT RUNS LIKE A VIDEOCLIP... NO WONDER WHY EVERYONE DISLIKES IT , THOUGH

aCCept me for what I am / or piss off!
extravaganza, extreme, weird, *beep* :)

You know, this movie really had the premise to be one of those trashy so-bad-it's-good Troma masterpieces, along "Class of Nuke 'Em High", "The Toxic Avenger", and so fourth. Especially the title. "Surt Nazis Must Die" is the title of centuries! Yet somehow it isn't so bad it's good. It's every bit as bad as your average so-bad-it's-good movie, yet, somehow it's just not every bit as good. It's also my impression that this is the general oppinion of trash fans, although, like most movies, "Surf Nazis Must Die" definitely also has its die-hard fans.

But if you get the chance to see it, do so. At least if you're a trash fan, because it definitely has its moments...

I still remember the first time I saw this flick. I was five years old and my big brother was told to look after me.

He just sat me in front of the TV and turned "SNMD" on.

More than 15 years later I could still remember the ending very well ("Taste some of momma's home cookin'!" BANG! lol), but I couldn't remember the title (I was only five years old after all).

When I recently saw the trailer by accident, I knew what I had to do.

I just watched it for the second time in my life - certainly not one of the 250 greatest films of all time, but it will always have a special place in my collection because it represents a part of my childhood.

In my opinion I enjoyed the movie, felt slow at times..but felt it had some orginallity for it's time... non the less this is a Troma classic.

No, it is not. Mostly it is very boring and not much is happening. And the action scenes are pretty lame. There are some funny Troma movies like Seargant Kabukiman, but "surf nazis" is not one of them.

reply

It is, it absolutely is and I LOVE IT!!!

not really, even psycho grandma doesn't bring too much to life in this.

reply

She's one of the top reasons to watch this masterpiece!

Maybe I only love it that much because I've seen it in German and THAT IS a great fun!

I remember seeing this film at video stores in the late 80s as a kid and the box was always so awesome. The absurd Nazi with the hook arm and machine gun on the surf board. I was expecting something really off the wall and fun, but when I saw it....it just sucked. Not even in an Ed Wood "so bad it's great" kind of way.

reply

WHOAAA!!! Mate!

That's the same way I found that picture!!
With twelve, thirteen or so I saw the DVD cover in a DVD catalog and just thought that I MUST see this movie once... the cover fascinated me, also the title, after - I don't know - 5 years or so I saw it the first time and it wasn't what I expected because I laughed my a** off and I LOVE this movie!

So I always thought that that guy on the cover had some kind of weapon like a blade out of melting steel and that was one big thing for me. I loved the idea. Together with the title I just wanted to see the movie but some when I forgot about it and remembered it a few months ago again, then I watched it...
And no, there weren't that many movies in my life I wanted to see as child and that I got to know later. Surf Nazis Must Die was one of them and I don't remember a lot of the others... SNMD was also something special for me and it is still... more then ever, hahaha...

yeah, it pretty much is so bad its good, even better with friends and something intoxicating

I wish I could agree with you. I've watched nearly all of the Troma library and Class of Nuke Em High is one of my favorites (so that tells you my appreciation of "so bad it's good" movies).
I watched this with a friend while quite intoxicated (which is usually a recipe for success with these kinds of movies).
But it was just so... BORING ... with so little action (until the end), plot, or good dialogue. Too many montage scenes of surfing, too many shots of the nazi surfers just standing around. Be funny, be action packed, be scary, be witty, be ANYTHING other than this!

After giving up on it the first night we attempted to watch it again on another drunken night. And again, it was so painfully slow and boring we stopped it again.
Finally I revisited it a third time sober just to finish the movie so I could comment on it.

This is the worst Troma movie I've seen. The ONLY redeeming part is the granny getting revenge. I just wish they got to it sooner.

It's not 'so bad it's good', it's just a good movie.
