There are certain parts actors must take, I should say do take because of money. Gene Hackman in my opinion has always been a good actor. The French connection, the conversation, even superman 1 and 2. Superman 4 though is utter crap.

with all the bad blood that went on between Donner and the Salkinds, i think he wanted to give it another shot and try to have fun with it.

A shame that they didn't give him a better Superman movie to go out on.
They didn't even bother dealing with Lex's baldness in this one. They just said screw it and let Hackman use his own hair without even using the wig explanation.
