It's not that it's that good, but. . .

what a great frickin' idea!

You have "Lord of the Flies" at summer camp. An episode in the third season of "The Simpsons" actually seems to have borrowed this idea.

It also involves Penelope Spheeris of "Decline of Western Civilization" and "Suburbia", and the music of Fear re-imagined as campfire song. While it's not exploitative, it pushes the line severely for a PG-13 film, which is a good thing because I frickin' hate how today's helicopter parents have swooped in and circumscribed all the films that are "fit" for their kids. (Yeah, I don't want young teenagers getting pregnant, but do they really have to watch nothing but Disnified movies where sex doesn't even exist?). As I recall, there's even a nice pair of boobs in this movie, which I definitely appreciated seeing as a youngster in 1987, and I suppose I still do.

I'd also like to read the YA novel this was based on sometime. I actually like those, even the a lot of the ones today (whereas I hate the MOVIES made for kids and teens today with a passion). I actually had totally forgotten about this one, but it is mentioned in the book "Destroy All Movies" due to its punk rock connections.

I don't think it is a good movie per second but it is an interesting movie in my opinion. Most of the actors really tried and it is a decent time capsule for b movies of the 80s. I watch it from time to time.
