So she meets and marries Jerry within ONE year of her husband's death?

Talk about moving fast. Did she meet him at the funeral or something? lol

I agreed completely:

That seemed like one serious continuity error! We're to believe that Susan, a wife who claimed she loved her first husband madly, meets Jerry within weeks of the time her husband died?!

It's not uncommon for older people who are widowed to remarry quickly. Some couples talk about it before one of them pases on, agreeing that they'd want each other to be happy and remarry. Pretty common.
Plus, it also emphasizes how charming an seductive he is, which is the point.

Meryl Streep was previously engaged to John Cazale (Pacino's friend and often costar) and she was devastated when he died of cancer. She was very much in love with him. She met her current husband only a few months after Cazale died and married him a few months after. They've been married since then and they have children together. They seem very much in love too. So I guess it happens.

Hitting on women in Funeral reminds me of Will Ferrell from Wedding Crashers

I think it's meant to indicate how seductive and sly the character is. If she is so swept away that she marries him that quickly she isn't going to be easily convinced that he isn't what he seems to be. Remember men like Ted Bundy were able to convince women to help them with a task because their arm was injured (or it appeared that way anyway) and then before the victim knew what was happening they were unconscious and he could do what he wanted.

Jerry was probably scanning the obits before Susan even thought of having a relationship. She's got a somewhat troubled daughter on her hands and he suddenly arrives, full of sunshine and charm. Did she have a job?

reply

I don't think so. We basically just saw her doing homemaker stuff.

Dick, I am VERY disappointed.

Good point.
