One thing I'll say for this movie...
...is that Swayze's sword was cool (very original design) and he handled it well. So maybe that's two things.

The sword fights were well choreographed and probably done well because of Patrick Swayze's dance skills. Other than that this Mad max wanna be was the most contrived nonsense I have ever endured. I can't believe someone actually had the nerve to release this to a paying audience. Horrible mess!

There will always be films worse. The truth of the matter is that if this film had starred anyone but Patrick Swayze, I would have liked it. Not because I think Patrick Swayze was an inferior acting talent, but because he is a superior acting talent. He had been wasted in this film. Anyway, it doesn't matter now, he is elsewhere and we have the legacy he left us. So with that, I'll take it and view it with less harsh eyes.
BTW, it's now available for viewing on Hulu.
Yeah this movie rocked hard with the fight scenes.
The credits initially gave me the feeling that it would be cheap and cheesy, but hot dang when Swayze got hold of his sword it was a masterful display of sword technique.
As a dancer this guy looked legit as a swordsman and as a fighter. Rain is also a dancer but he really sucked in Ninja Assassin. Swayze was 100% badass in Steel Dawn.
That sword was pretty cool, as was the production design in general. Some of the imagery stuck with me since I first saw this as a kid - the underground spring, the lone tavern, the desert ship, etc.
I like this one quite a bit. Swayze is in top form, and I don't say that lightly... he pulls off the quiet, mysterious nomad act extremely well and, as mentioned, kills it in the action scenes. Good film, all in all...
