How did Sho (the knee spike dude). come to the conclusion?

That Patrick Swayze's character was a general in the army? I didn't see some sort of insignia on his clothes (i figured they all knew he was a soldier b/c of his clothes & sword), but i didn't see anything that happened where his rank was revealed.

I'm not sure, but I think that tattoo on Swayze's chest gave him a hint.
By the way, I've just finished watching it for the first time in 25 years... I liked it more now, than back then. Quite good little post-apocalyptic flick. Nicely done.

It was the tattoo on his chest. That was the first time Sho (nuf) (Last dragon anyone?) saw it and knew what he was or used to be anyway.

So, how come Tark didn't recognize it? He's a veteran soldier as well.

He wasn't a General. His rank was Commander which is one rank below a Captain.
