Unrealistic in his work intensity!

What high school kids would work through Christmas break?!

Even I wouldn't have done that! He was way too tough. Everyone needs a rest.

"Didn't he discover America?"
"Penfold, shush."

Very unrealistic scene in which kids give up their Christmas break in order to please a math teacher. NOBODY is that charming. That reminds me of when I was taking a very tough college course and the instructor didn't like that the college had decided to give us students a one-day holiday. He said he thought it was wrong and we could have class anyway if the class agreed. He asked for a show of hands and no one raised their hands. We wanted our holiday. I made an A in his class and I wanted my holiday too. If you have been working hard why shouldn't you get a break?

My understanding (and I could totally be wrong on this) is this really happened. Desperate kids actually gave up vacations and worked extra hours to do what they needed to do to goto college.

it wasn't just to please the teacher....and they didn't do it joyfully. just goes to show that the stereotype "lazy mexican" doesn't apply to all of them. many are very hardworking and will go to great lengths in order to succeed in life, even if it means entering this country illegally so as to GET A JOB and support their family (you know, the jobs that our citizens won't take because they think they're too good to mow lawns and pick weeds?). all your statement does is reinforce the sense of entitlement that most americans have these days..."i deserve this"..."you owe me that" etc.

no offense, i know where you're coming from...just my two cents.

"He must've thought it was white boy day. It ain't white boy day, is it?"

Agree. I didn’t buy that part of the movie. Kids wouldn’t give up vacation days for math
