'Is it true intelligent people make better lovers?'...

WTF? shouldn't that question have gotten him fired?

They probably make better lovers than people who aren't all that bright.

1. Did Jaime Escalante actually say that?

2. Students don't rat out teachers they admire.

reply

1. what difference does it make? we're talking about the movie.

2. you think she admired him? it was like his first day. and who says it would have to be her who rats him out

It was a different time, Jay.

You could get away with saying a hell of a lot more in the 70s/80s than you can now. Today, he'd be out on his ass in a heartbeat for saying that, but back then he might have gotten a stern look and a finger-waggle and that's just if Administration gave a damn.

You gotta remember, just a few years before this movie took place, it was common for teachers to openly date students. So no, a comment like that would not have raised many eyebrows. Especially not in a low SES school like Garfield High.

It was common for teachers to date students?? In high school - are you sure about that?

If he would have faced repercussions for anything it would have been for either his "break your neck like a toothpick" comment to Angel or when he left the class unattended to chase after that pretty popular girl.
