The movie is very close to reality ...

Jaime Escalante (Almos) is the exception not the norm. Most teachers are not as dedicated nor driven to work with students with the same passion as Jaime. I've been in education 9 years and I've seen the bar of expectation set tooooo low for student academics. A majority of students are not challenged. The district I work in is test driven meaning the student is placed based on results of test scores. STAND AND DELIVER dares to make a statement about what we're not doing in primary education. It dares to say that we must give the students an opportunity to show their brilliance when conventional wisdom would say the brilliance is not there.
Jaime Escalante made a difference and will not be forgotten. It's my guess that maybe 5% out of a 100 teachers do care about the potential brilliance of their students. I'm hoping the percentage is higher but I doubt it ... prove me wrong ... PLEASE.

OLMOS, you idiot, not Almos.

He said prove him wrong that teachers aren't as devoted as the guy in the film, not criticize the typo of one letter, spatulea head.

It is unfortunate that the movie is close to reality.

When I watched it, I did not like how the teacher was critical and unsupportive of the students. I think I saw an interview of the real Jaime Escalante in which he said they left out the mot important part, Love. If you read about him, you will see that Love was important to him. I wish the movie showed that and emphasized it with as much emphasis as he did.
