Richard + Madeleine = HOT!

Who'd have dreamed they'd make such a sexy couple? Sure, he's short, but she makes him seem like Cary Grant. (Poor Madeleine must've had to stoop through much of this shoot, like Kelly McGillis did in "Top Gun".)

But maybe Madeleine just brings it out in her leading men. Remember her and Daniel Day-Lewis in "The Last Of The Mohicans"? Good lord! They might've been the hottest movie couple, EVER. Or her and Ed Harris in "China Moon"? Hooooweeeee!

I agree. I just saw this movie for the first time today & I loved it. Richard Dreyfuss & Madeleine Stowe had amazing romantic chemistry & they looked SO cute together.

reply

I couldn't agree more ...I have never perceived Richard Dreyffus as being sexy...but man, he is not sexy in this film or what? The sex/love tension between both actors is very tangible on the screen, I thought.

reply

Yes, I was amazed at how much chemistry they had. And it was instantaneous and palpable! But can we leave Daniel Day Lewis out of THIS discussion!

reply

well .. this another so called american dream : short ugly guys can get pretty tall chicks just by being funny and corky :)

I agree. Look at Jim Belushi being paired up with Courtney Thorne-Smith on their TV show. Only in Hollywood.

reply

Belushi is tall

reply

It's debatable whether Richard is ugly or not.

reply

Well he's certainly not the male equivalent of Madeleine Snow.

reply

Who is?

reply

Richard is not by any means ugly. He's a nice looking gentleman, particularly in this film and a many others. Even a young Dustin Hoffman was good looking in The Graduate and other films he's done. A man can be attractive without being classically handsome.

Except that Dreyfuss is taller than Madeleine, as observed here: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0094025/mediaviewer/rm1672527105/

I also thought the chemistry was electric. Richard and Madeleine did a great job at creating sexual tension and passion. Richard was especially good at coming across as smitten and totally hot for Madeleine.

It really boosted the film, as without that chemistry going on, it would have spoilt everything.

Madeleine came across as sooo feminine and sultry, I nearly fell in love with her too. What a gorgeous woman.

reply

Yeah, Stowe gave a very natural performance in this film. No posing or posturing, just being a woman! Definitely her best role. One of the sexiest performances of the 80s!

I agree... In a way, it reminds me of Ingrid Bergman in that whomever she stars with, she makes *them* seem sexy too!
Their chemistry (and the funny lines with Emilio) are one of the main reasons I enjoy re-watching this movie.

reply

Yeah, I think the honest chemistry between the Richard Dreyfuss and Madeline Stowe characters make this film special.

reply

I agree - it does seem honest and real chemistry cannot be faked.

reply

I think they make a hollywood couple, she is way too good looking for him. They are like the couple you see around town and think "what is she doing with him?"

reply

Yeah.

reply

They did have great chemistry 

R.I.P. Rick Ducommun and Tony Longo

reply

They were great together, this one's a classic. The sequel however, not so much.
