inappropriate enough cover OR WHAT

this idea may have been cute in '87, but I strongly recommend that, if they reissue this on DVD, they change the cover. I mean, come on. It's downright JARRING to see this in a video store, or at least it was to me.

Don't get me wrong, seeing a gloriously mulleted Keaton is always a pleasure... but not when he's squeezed between the CRUMBLING trade centers. Ugh... maybe Bin Laden got his idea from this poster.

Yes, the cover art is quite jarring today. I just picked up this title for a buck in the clearance bin of a video store, mainly because the cover was so mesmerizingly shocking. Who'd have though a Michael Keaton film would foretell 9/11? Of course, things were much simpler back in 1987.

If you hate the freedom of speech so much then get the hell out of this country!

reply

Not inappropriate when you consider it's from like 1987. I mean c'mon, how the hell were they supposed to know.Believe me if they ever put it on DVD, there will be another cover.

reply

yea, someone should build a time machine and stop the production of this cover, we should go and and burn all the pictures of people posing in front of the leaning tower of pisa because some day it could fall and maybe crush somebody. in fact lets not alter any pictures of anything because some day they could be offensive to some idiot. its an obscure 1980s michael keaton movie. you really want to make an issue of this? lets ban the dream team cuz they represent a terrorist cell or lets change the cover of beetlejuice cuz hes sitting on a house that could clearly collapse under his weight.

i was pointing out how it relates today. i wasn't offended by it, just found it jarring. you don't?

I don't mean to impose, but I am the ocean.

reply

I find it extremely jarring!

reply

Yeah i gotta say that while 9/11 was a big thing (to such an extent that in australia we dont say 11/9 which was the date here but succumb to the u.s. dating method) but you cant try and get rid of all stuff that relates to it just because of that one event. It's a general perspective issue: surely the emotions aren't so raw now that you cant take into account context etc.

reply

agreed. i was more going for the "look how much America has changed that the feel of an 'innocent' poster like The Squeeze's has changed so much" approach.

I don't mean to impose, but I am the ocean.

reply

I didn't find it jarring one bit, it's just a cover. It wasn't released after 9/11, so it shouldn't seem jarring. It's not like everything important in my life was gone in 9/11. There are worse things than a commando attack. If a friend or family member of yours died 7 years ago, perhaps you should let go and just say "life goes on".

reply

Say lex, while you're cruzin' in your time machine, have a little chat with the fellow who decided "9-1-1" should the number called for emergencies...because someday, it'll be prophetic.

What in the wide wide world of sports is'a goin' on around here?!

reply

When is this inept administration going to stop jerking itself off in the Iraq desert and finally hunt down Keaton and bring him to justice for his actions on 9/11?

reply

lmao! ive liked keaton since Batman, i saw this cover as a recommended film and had to click on it! the cover is very jarring, and i do understand the context of 11 years. its kinda like the spider-man poster that never surfaced b/c the twin towers were reflected in his eyes...

Agreed.

This is gonna sound extremely insensitive and I feel a little bad about it...but I found this cover.......and the OP's first post..........pretty funny. I can't help but laugh. BTW his post to me seemed only part serious. But I'm loving the grumpy description.

"...between the CRUMBLING trade centers..."

reply

I would have chuckled hard if the cover art was actually smashing the towers into bits, because you know how touchy the Politically Correct are.

It's weird that alot of people want pictures of the WTC building edited out ex. Spider-Man poster. What happened to "We Will NEVER Forget"? It seems like that what the powers to be wants us to do, FORGET.

Considering that the poster for this film really had nothing to do with the movie anyway, I'd have no problem with it being changed. At no point in "The Squeeze" is Michael Keaton trapped between the crumbling World Trade Center towers. This is not about political correctness, whatever that means these days. It's just about images that convey the fictional film instead of a real-life tragedy.

Honestly, I think this is a pretty forgettable film anyway, and a generic image of Michael Keaton under someone's thumb, perhaps by the artist who did the "Honey I Shrunk the Kids" posters, would probably give this movie the obscurity it deserves.
