The fact that this Classic only has 54% on RT. Proves that

Critics are clueless. Frankly this is the best summary of a film critic's job.

Yeah, and Naked freakin Gun has 89% - a movie 10 times more unsubtle and boneheaded than Spaceballs (which actually has charm).

Critics know dog$hit.

The Right!!! I meant stay to the Right!!!

A lot of critics are stuck up pricks anyway. That's what you learn from them more than opinions.

So because they don't like a movie you like. It makes them clueless?

Give him a gun and he's superman. Give him two and he thinks he's a god.

Critics often take themselves, and their work FAR too seriously. That's why they look down on comedies. A movie may be a 9/10 comedy, but in the eyes of the highbrow critic, that only makes it a 5/10 movie. It's weird.

Firstly, comedy was never favoured amongst critics. They hated it in ancient Greece, they hated it in Middle Ages Europe, and they only liked a bit of it during the Golden Age of Hollywood aka musical comedies of the 50s. So no surprise this ancient tradition still stands.

Secondly, Brooks, despite being one of the funniest filmmakers out there, always got low ratings, aside from maybe Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein. He's Leonardo DiCaprio of ratings. Everyone rates his films pretty high, but not the critic, hehe.

Rotten Tomatoes is absolutely terrible, I always keep a good distance from that site.
