How can Spaceballs 2 exist without Joan Rivers and John Candy?

Get Jonah Hill to be John Candy's relative and Tina Fey to be he new droid.

*beep* no. Let Mel choose a cast worthy and suited to the roles. He doesn't need help with casting, no one need go over his helmet.

Besides, it only MIGHT happen if Rick Moranis says yes to it, coming out of retirement.

I am just giving suggestions that make sense. Both actors can handle Mel''s style of comedy.

Howabout : a badly-rebuilt Joan Rivers robot sampling a vocabulary of all the words she ever used on film and Tv..

The son or daughter of Mog (part cat as well?)

fully-grown singing, dancing chestburster

They'd be better off not making a sequel if those are the type of actors they'd bring in.

Have you seen the Jump Street films and The Wolf Of Wall Street? He was awesome in those movies.

reply

Yep, I've seen them along with most of his films. Hill doesn't have the skills or range to play even a remotely similar John Candy type character.

Not only was Candy blessed with a unique talent for performing, but he had to hone his comedic skills at tireless improv groups, workshops and shows before gradually breaking into Hollywood and making his way up. He was a true comic actor.

Compare that to Jonah Hill who gets roles in movies because he was friends with Dustin Hoffman's kids and was immediately made a star overnight because the stoner demographic loves him. Hill can be mildly humorous (usually when he's spewing some form of profanity laden speech or something vulgar) but he ain't fit to shine Candy's shoes and should be nowhere near a spaceballs sequel.

The cast should be the original guys who are all still here with Dan Aykroyd, Martin Short or Steve Martin standing in for their friend John.

Whether this sequel will actually be made or not, Mel could just retire those characters. He could invent new ones, perhaps spoofing characters from the STAR WARS prequels if that isn't yet a cliche in itself.

And the dead aside, what have the other actors said of this? Bill Pullman was in SCARY MOVIE 4 for crying out loud, I don't think SPACEBALLS 2 would hurt him. I'd like to see George Wyner return as Colonel Sandurz. I've noticed not too many people have discussed him yet. He'd probably be up for a sequel.

Really, the biggest problem here is getting Rick Moranis. If he's not on, the film probably won't even go. He's hasn't done any films since Honey, I Shrunk Ourselves and is pretty content on staying retired from acting (he didn't even voice Bob McKenzie for the cartoon series, even though he could have he refused too).

But does the sequel even need Dark Helmet? He was funny in the original, but couldn't a new villain be created just in case? Perhaps one who spoofs Emperor Palpatine? If Mel is really putting all his faith in Rick, than I don't think he has that much interest in making the film at all.

Mel obviously wants to work with the same people he made the first with, who are still alive. It's a real shame many people Mel loved to use are no longer with us. Not just John Candy and Joan Rivers, but Madeline Khan, Dom Deluise, Marty Feldman... even tho only Dom was in Spaceballs, he probably will have to go with who is still around, but some of the characters it would be interesting to see who Mel chooses to come on board. However I won't go into who should be cast, anyone can throw a name out there, like Will Sasso... and have people say "yeah, great" but then again, imagine if we were living pre-Spaceballs and had IMDB/internet ect.. and you heard Mel had chosen Bill Pullman and John Candy as the lead roles with Daphne whats-her-name and Rick Moranis. Most people would probably be saying who the hell is Bill Pullman, John Candy is ok, but why is Bill Murray not in this? Who is Daphne, and seriously, Rick Moranis? The guy who played Lewis in Ghostbusters? How is he supposed to be a bad guy???

Just remember, Mel Brooks does not need your help in casting. He picks them for the best and knows what he is doing. Bring on a sequel Mel, as it may be Mel's last hurrah. Give us one more parody from the master before it's too late.
