Amanda was ugly

Bad choice for dream girl

Are u retarded??

reply

I wouldn't call her "ugly", just really average/plain. There was nothing special about her looks or her personality for that matter. Now the girl from "Love Don't Cost a thing" was pretty imo.

I think that was part if the point. She was well 'put together' and ran in the right circles and caved to the social norms. High school girls/guys follow that trend. Watts was FAR cuter and had her own original style ...but thats not what is the acceptable in hs. Believe me Im 37 ( and was more a watts thats for sure) but always felt i wasnt good enough . Hated school and proms and sports stuff. We all end up much diffrent as adults. I have more friends now than in my whole life ...and hish school is a distant memory. Some of the girls who pushed me around or laughed at me ...i talk to them on facebook now and some ended up either very unhappy later in life or they came around and dropped the facade and are cool now. :)

I agree, ugly is thrown around too loosely.

Kids these days misuse and overuse the term "ugly".
Just about the understatement of the year.🐭

She wasn't average or plain. She was very cute and innocent in some scenes - like when she got out of doing detention by flirting with the teacher. Her face was mature in some ways but child like in others (the dimples and thin lips). I liked Amanda and Watts

This was always my favorite John Hughes movie as a writer or director, despite its flaws or awkward scenes. Some things are ambiguous, like did Harvey really tell Amanda about his party and she said she was ok with going - after breaking up with him - or was Harvey just lying and manipulating Keith? I think the latter. Some of the dialogue doesn't make sense, like in the restaurant and the amphitheater on their date at the end.

Somebody is jealous

reply

Nothing to be jealous of. Now the girl in "Can't buy me love" was beautiful but this girl as the lead dream girl was a dog. ruff ruff. Sorry you have to use the old card jealously cause you can't accept opinions that differ from yours. So boring.

She looks really cute in some scenes like when she's flirting with the driver's Ed teacher to get out of doing detention. Great dimples. She was kind of melancholy at other times when she let her guard down and Keith saw that. He wasn't looking for a cheerleader / glamor queen. He was an artist. She was more mature.

reply

To me she wasn't ugly, but average. Like I said in another thread I do like her as an actress.

reply

I've always thought she was so pretty!

She’s the Mom from Back to the Future. Stoltz was the original Marty McFly. Maybe it’s the Œdipal vibe that puts you off of Amanda.

reply

I wonder if there is something about her being cast bc she gives off a non-sexual vibe. Like you would a family member or a lesbian (I am wondering if she was actually a lesbian in this movie)

reply

I agree. Not ugly, but certainly not someone who your eyes would fall upon when she entered a room. Of course, in the 80s, she would've been considered "fine!" Big lips, long hair and a big butt were NOT in style back then. I should know. My first year of high school was 1988 and I got made fun of for having the features I mentioned above. Everyone liked the girls with little mouths, flat & skinny rears and winged hair.
