I love John Hughes, what a master. I remember watching this movie when I was 17 and being a little obsessed with the kissing scene between Eric Stoltz & Mary Stuart Masterson. It was one of the best scenes ever because of the actors yes, but the music absolutely made the moment. I bought the soundtrack and wore it out almost, I just loved it. Then years later I downloaded all the songs again onto my computer and took that trip down memory lane. Music really does make a movie and can't be underestimated. I find the movies I love best all have amazing soundtracks or they are actually musicals. It is so fun to read all the comments on here and go back in time briefly to recapture one's youth. A big thank you to all the actors in this movie, you made something special. And a very big thank you to the music director and the bands that participated in this soundtrack, you affected a lot of young people and are part of a lasting memory for so many.

I agree with you completely! I'm rewatching the movie now, and I was just thinking the same thing, and then, BAM, I see your post. I did the same thing as you too...I downloaded all the songs a few years ago.

I just feel like the 80's teen angst movies were so REAL compared to the sh*t that is out today. Am I right? I miss John Hughes.

Lol...that's funny, we are on the same wave length. It really is fun to relive those movies when you are older. The music just transports you back. I really miss John Hughes as well, he was a genius. I like the 80's movies because the people look so much more real than they do today and they seemed to have a bit more substance. The Breakfast Club is amazing to watch now, I get more out of it today than I did then! Most of the modern teen flicks do suck, everyone has their teeth fixed and whitened, same hair, same face, just not enough variety and character in a lot of the movies. There are a few exceptions to the rule that I like including Easy A, Juno, The Perks of Being a Wallflower (a modern John Hughes feel to that one), Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants, and even Twilight (first one) because the kids in that didn't look fake and weren't overly made up(other than the vampires). I do wish John Hughes had lived longer, I would have watched his movies until the end of time.

Saw this movie on VHS back in the late 80's and immediately went out and bought the soundtrack. Still on my shelf to this day and still love almost every song. It wasn't until years later I was able to find "Abuse" by Propaganda so that the soundtrack was complete. Great songs!

I am pretty sure that the song at the end where Keith comes out of the party with Amanda, and he realises that Watts loves him ( Tall mountain or something is the main lyric) is not on the soundtrack.

Just looked it up, its called "the Beats so LOnely, and considering how prominent it is in the movie, the fact that it is not, and songs that played for half a seocnd are in the soundtrack is a tragedy.

Kind of curious as to what version of Dr Mabuse was used, it wasn't the same one that was on the Propaganda album that contained Dr. Mabuse.

I agree...love the soundtrack....The March Violets!

There are a few other 80's films that had great soundtracks....

The Lost Boys, My Best Friend's a Vampire, The Heavenly Kid, ahh hell...there are a LOT of 80's films with great soundtracks lol.

I Go Crazy by Flesh for Lulu.

Strange name, but I love that song. Just tailer made for the movie.

Totally agree. We need to get back to the days where movies used actors and actresses that looked like REAL people, not unattainable airbrushed perfection.

This was my absolute favorite of the John Hughes teen films and still is ( also my second fave " Pretty in Pink " and third fave " Sixteen Candles "  ) . Totally agree the music in this was top-notch too - truly unforgettable   .

The soundtrack for SKOW and Pretty in Pink are two of the greatest soundtracks to come out of the 80s.

I only own about three movie soundtracks and this is one of them. It's wonderful.

Hughes did have a way with soundtracks. I just watched the ending on youtube and it brought me all back. I was in the Class of '85 and hate to say how many singers and bands I thought were "lame" back then because they weren't metal or hard(er) rock. I have a new appreciation for guys like Howard Jones, The Motels, Human League, etc. Of course, I'm a massive Alarm guy already, so there you go!

Along with this one, another of my favorite soundtracks from an 80's movie is "Something Wild." Excellent songs, each of which fits perfectly into the scenes from the movie and takes me right to those scenes when I listen to the CD. (Yes, still listening to CD's... not into the whole downloading thing yet.) Of course, alphabetically, they sit right next to each other on my shelf (Some Kind of Wonderful, Something Wild) so when I listen to one, I listen to the other and bring back all of those great memories.
