The teenage director

I've looked at the director Michael Berz' birthday and it says he was born in 1969, which would have made him 17 or 18 when this movie was made. It's the only film he's ever directed and the only other film he wrote was Sleeping Beauty the same year. That's a big feat for a kid to direct a fairy tale with a lot of songs (which he wrote), costumes, art direction, and of course working with actors like Diana Rigg. I wonder what's he's been up to now?
