Is T.J. funny or annoying...? and a thought on the writing...

The first time I saw this movie, I thought that T.J. was a rather lame choice for one of the lead boyfriends and that he contributed to the overall weakness of the movie, but as I watched it again and again, I realized that he is actually quite funny - Does anyone agree, or is he just annoying? The more you watch it, the more it seems that the actor's personality fits in perfectly with the lines written for the character.

It's also interesting that the writer and director, Deborah Brock, used the word "uptight" for T.J. so many times. "Uptight" must be of her vocabulary, you know, how some people have distinctive vocabularies...

I get the sense that the writing and Brock's imagining of how the movie was going to be somehow did not match up with the finished product, which is intriguing because the writer and director are the same person. Anyone else get that sense? The movie starts out promising - the first 20 minutes are good - and then sometime after they've gotten to the house it seems to fall apart. Maybe the setting, the house itself, is a drawback - I mean, the walls are barren, there's no color, and it takes place in the desert.
