They are just so, so, so, so slow.

How do you not get away? Just get up and run away or stomp on them! It takes them an hour to cross the street. Unless you just lay down and lie still for thirty minutes how could they do anything to you. This is one of those horror movies that I am laughing at the entire time. I could never understand how they could be a threat in anything other than the most extreme situation. They bite but they are still slugs.

Well they're kinda like Zombies in that regard. The old, slow moving, shambling zombies that is. One on one it's not a big deal you can just walk right by them but get enough of them in a group and that's when they really become dangerous. Most of the slug deaths came about when they were truly in massive numbers and/or someone fell into a huge pile of them.

Zombies are humans. They can be 6 feet tall, weigh up to 200-300 pounds and they can grab hold of you.
Slugs? They are probably less than an ounce and are a couple of inches long....less than an inch high.
If you fall into a gob of them....you may get bit but you can still stand back up and run off. Nothing makes you just lay there.
Sure, it is a silly horror film. Suspension of belief. I'm just saying.
