I haven't seen this film. Can someone tell me if, at some point in the movie, they use salt to defeat the slugs? It would have been the first thing I thought about after finding out about the impending gastropod mollusk invasion.

Actually, they don't... Some friends of mine and I watched this years ago and were riffing on it saying that it was apparently sodium awareness month in the town. Bad time to get rid of all the table salt, luckily they could create highly explosive slug killer that reacts to moisure and then carry it into the warm wet methane filled sewer system.

I might be thinking of a different movie, but wasn't there a scene that showed someone putting salt on one of the slugs, and had no effect on it?

Pretty sure that was a different movie. At one point Mike's wife/girlfriend says something like "maybe I'll just throw salt on him" and Mike's all "hey that's a great idea!"... but they never do it.
I guess finding enough salt to kill a billion slugs WOULD be kinda difficult.. but then again I'm not sure the movie really gets an A+ for realism anyway.
