Not Enough Golden Plates

Steward: Sire, there arent enough golden plates.

King: Fine, fine......Not enough golden plates?!?!?!?! (to the cook) DO YOU KNOW WHAT THIS MEANS?!!!!!

Cook: No.

King:(to his steward) Tell him, tell him what it means.

Steward: It means....that the faries.......can only eat off golden plates, you (some offensive name.)

If the problem is that one of the faries will have to go without a golden plate (but the other 8 CAN have golden plates), why does the steward answer this way? Is he also stumped like the King is?

LOL! Well I think the deal with the plates are that legend has it that fairies are greedy, especially when dealing with gold. Some folklore explains that they love gold so much they will do anything to keep it, even disguise payment to humans for something as "true fairy gold", but when the fairies leave, the human realizes that it isn't gold at all, just leaves or forest foliage. In the case of Sleeping Beauty, the fairies are coming to give their gifts to the princess, so the fairies deserve nothing less than golden plates to eat off of, but for some reason neither the King or Steward really knew why. Thats just the comedy of the scene, that Steward got mad at the cook for not knowing, so he was put on the spot and had to come up with an answer. Also, the offensive name that steward called the cook was "fat"

"It means...that the fairies...can only eat off golden plates, you fat!"
