Evil Dead

Did anyone else see the many and striking similarities with Evil Dead? Spotting that certainly made for a more enjoyable viewing experience...

Yes, you are right!I find similarities especially to Evil Dead 2.The magic book,
the monster from another dimension, the beautiful cinematography and the funny staff suggests that both films have common elements. They even came out in the same year (1987).I love the first Evil Dead and the Chinese Ghost Story. The Evil Dead
2 is a very good movie but i love the first more because it's scarier.

'Evil Dead' is actually the only movie I can think of when trying to describe the awesomness of 'A Chinese Ghost Story'.

Anyone who still has faith in humanity has never been to the imdb boards.

reply

Yep, I also saw many similarities.

How can you compare this with Evil Dead? The only similarity it has that there are, well evil dead, around.
And thats about it, if thats a similarity then every single movie with zombies and ghosts is similar to Evil Dead.

And tbh, i love this movie more then Evil Dead, ED is just a brain at zero munch popcorn entertainment, so is Ghost Story, but it actually has an enjoyable story to tell.

I was watching a documentary on El Ray Network "Films Of Fury" when they introduced a Chinese Ghost Story, they mentioned that Siu-Tung Ching was inspired by Sam Rami's Evil Dead and in this film he put his personal twist on the tale, the similarities you have noticed are intentional. Can't wait to see this.

The POV shots, ghouls in the basement and the melting part to name a few similarities.
