Puzo's The Sicilian

Years before I read Mario Puzo's novel, The Sicilian and I just loved it. I'm disappointed in the same quantity with the movie.

* Why on the earth the full script of this film is written in constant philosophical tone?!

* I remember a scene in the novel, a sex scene involving Guiliano and a widow where Puzo has called them 'Samson and Delilah', the widow and the scene are absolutely missing in the movie. I wanted to watch their greatly narrated intercourse in the movie, in fact I watched the movie for precise that reason!

* Nevertheless, I have got another movie of this director 'Deer Hunters', I'm going to watch it.

@rasheed - how did you like "The Deer Hunter"? One of my favorite movies - it's hard to believe the same guy did both of these movies.

dyahrmarkt,
The Deer Hunter is a great movie, can I call it a cult movie? Watching it, one feels that it's film making at its best.
And for sure, you are right when you said that it's hard to believe that a same director had made them both! I should also add here that cinematography of the Sicilian is remarkable.
(By the way, yesterday I watched a movie named 'Straight Time' (1978) and I highly recommend it to you, Dustin Hoffman is in the lead (terrific) and the movie is directed by Ulu Grossbard who is a really underrated director.

Thanks for a response, pleased to have one.

I wouldn't call "Deer Hunter" a cult film per se - it won many academy awards and was about as mainstream as it got at the time - but powerful it is - I'm glad there are enough people who champion the film to keep it alive.

"The Sicilian" had amazing cinematography, but not too much else. If you want to see another one of Cimino's pure epics try "Heaven's Gate" - the four-hour version - certainly this is the most beautiful film I've ever seen in my life.

I've seen "Straight Time", thanks for the recommendation - underrated vehicle for Dustin Hoffman, for sure!

Hi, dyahrmarkt,

Thanks and yes, I watched 'Heaven's Gate'. All the heavy controversial things surrounding that movie apart, I think it must be watched, at least for the sake of Michael Chimino! I'm sure, he set out to make something very grand what that movie is not, in my humble view yet I could watch it twice!
I was not impressed by the way the last battle between two parties is filmed but than I enjoyed its beginning and background music.
