Anyone else want to...

...slap Mia Farrow's character???

She was so whiny - "I've seen sick" "I have no money" "My head is splitting!" "I just want to swallow a bottle of pills". I felt like fine - do it!!

And did she really expect her mom to just GIVE her the family cottage so she could get started up as a photographer in NY? Gimme a break - not a real solid reason to give up the family estate,is it? Particularly given her self-absorbed lack of drive.

She comes off as terrible pathetic and pushy in a passive-aggressive way. Did Allen write it that way or does Mia just make it turn out that way?

I do think the secondary characters were well-written and played though. I still like the movie despite Mia's grating performance. Allen writes great dialogue.

She suffered from depression. I thought it was a very convincing portrayal. She had such a heavy-footed personality, and was just desperate to be part of life, but everyone got along without her.

Her mother HAD given her the cottage, just on a whim. Then at the end of the movie, she changed her mind, on yet another whim.

I didn't think she was passive aggressive : just passive. She didn't get anything she wanted - except the cottage at the end. Without the cottage, she would've had literally nothing.

That´s how Farrow almost always is - a good actress, but also a monumentally annoying broad.

Exactly. She whined about being alone, yet she had Howard clinging to her every word. If you're really that needy for companionship, stay with him and let him take care of you. She was alone 'cause she chose to be.

I felt so bad for Howard, falling in love with such a wreck of a woman.

Did all of you watch the movie.
Her Mom totally screwed her up when she was 14 by making her take the blame for the shooting, when her Mom did it. It was the most intense scene in the movie. That would ruin anybody's life.

Kind of - but Elaine Stritch (really just her voice) would have put me over the brink. I know she's supposed to be a national treasure but she really is abrasive.
