Ridiculous - a Hollywood fantasy of how corporate America works

This movie is so stupid.

One of the only things they got right was the attitude of the recent college grad with no real world experience- he felt he was entitled to an executive position, and he already knew everything, and knew it better than the people who had been running the business for years.

Of course, they got it completely wrong when they made it come out that he was actually right.

Yeah but, this was the 80's and the suits are 100% focused on building careers and impressing their boss and do really stupid things in the process (which is as true today as it was then) and anyway - it's just a stupid fun movie. Also, Helen Slater so happiness is :-)

I've always liked it, thinking it no more than dumb fun. I don't think it would've worked, though, without Fox.

Nobody has quite the same youthful charm and inner persistence of Michael J Fox. This movie was perfect for him. He almost has a silent movie quality to him, except he is such an engaging speaker too. He's Cary Grant or James Stewart meets the energetic Pepsi generation. He's a true cinema icon. And the movie's not a documentary. It quickly encapsulates the tone of different types of people in an organisation, with Michael J Fox the thirsty country butterfly.

reply

Jeesh... it's a comedy, not an MBA program.

reply

Yeah, some people expect a documentary out of a rom-com, just like they want real-world physics in a Star Trek movie or years of boring investigations and dead ends in cop movies rather than minutes-long fight scenes where they beat the crap out of each other but nobody gets knocked out cold. And characters should never, ever break out in song and dance.

reply

LOL, excellent observations!

reply
