Liked it. Decent adaptation.

For a film that was set in 1987 based on a 1897 play, it was a good adaptation.

I think the two best English adaptations of the 1897 play are;

Cyrano de Bergerac (1950 film) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyrano_de_Bergerac_(1950_film)

and

Cyrano (2021) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyrano_(film)

Other than the modern setting, the two big changes in Roxanne are the lack of a real antagonist and the Hollywood ending.

I wish the town that it's set in could exist in real life. Most towns like this are mostly resort town with low-wage workers and corporate stores not the boutique shops and small business owners who can eek out at living like they were living in some bustling coal town in Pennsylvania back before it was called the Rust Belt or a small alpine town like in Twin Peaks. Today everyone would be priced out.

It was filmed in Nelson, B.C. which is a very cute town.
