Question (SPOILER)

I have a question about the very end of the movie, after the killer is caught.
The Police gave the priest (Donald Sutherland) a letter that they had found in the killer's effects. It was a final letter from the girl to the girl's Dad. (Interesting how she called him "Father" in the letter and the priests are all called "Father.") In it she writes how she can't take it any longer and that she forgives him but when she walks up the stairs after writing the letter, "it will be for the last time." And of course, we all know that she commits suicide.

After reading the girl's letter, Donald Sutherland looks up and notices that the troubled news reporter has returned. The Priest and the reporter exchange a pained and meaningful look. What does that look MEAN?????

Has the priest changed his mind about being a priest?
Since reporter is back, will he have a relationship with her? He seemed to be the steady one who knew his relationship in the world as a priest.

And WHY in the world did they give her that pink sweater to wear? I thought it made her look as if she were pregnant, which would introduce a whole new concept but the movie is over, there's no room to explain...

When I watched the movie a second time, I saw that she had worn that pink sweater previously in the movie and she didn't look pregnant...

What did that last look mean?

Would REALLY like an answer to my above question. Every time I watch this movie I wonder about it and have the same question...

I watched this movie on tv so it was in edited form; did I miss something ?

Personally, having read the books 20 years ago, no the priest is not rethinking being a priest. The look exchanged makes no sense, unless she is feeling some sort of regret for having feelings for him. I always thought the look was bad directing, since it seemed grossly out of place. Who knows, maybe they both feel bad because the killer is dead. The pink sweater at the end does make her look pregnant, bad wardrobe.
