The ford taurus.

I used to own a Taurus and it had to be one of the worst cars ever made next to the tempo. To see it as the squad car in this movie just reminds me of how popular the first generation of the Taurus was. Would you use one as a squad car? The broken shocks on my previous Taurus says, "nope"

Not really interested in American cars, thanks.

I still love that car because it's pretty. I can't help it that the only thing I care about in a car is if it's pretty. But I have many diecast cars by my bed, and I lay in my bed and hold/look at them one at a time. So of course the only thing I value in a car is if it's pretty. And that's why the first and second generation Taurus are two of my favorite cars.

I am not a fan of front wheel drive cars, but the Taurus was very significant for its time in many ways, and listening to the DVD commentary they explain that a unique "Turbo Cruiser" vehicle was designed and created for the film but it ended up looking ridiculous. The director saw the new Taurus go by and was amazed with its "aero" appearance, and he used that instead.

Personally, with its matt-black paint job and police markings, I love the way it looks, and looks only!

I assume they chose the Taurus because it was the most futuristic looking car on the market at the time ('80s cars had boxy styling until the Taurus came out in '86). It was a landmark design that everyone else took cues from until the Ford Focus came along in 2000, at which point everyone started copying the shitty "New Edge" styling of that car, which can still be seen somewhat in cars today.

The first-generation Taurus SHO was a cool car; 0-60 in 6.6 seconds, top speed of 143 MPH, and a 5-speed manual transmission. It didn't exist yet when Robocop was made though (it was introduced in 1989).

This is one of the better discussions on moviechat.

My brother used to own a 90s Taurus. Can't remember the year.

Personally, I'd rather have the 6000 SUX
