The Editing of the Film

Been watching this movie literally since it was released. I actually believe I saw this film before the Tobe Hooper masterpiece. I have a soft spot for this film as I really enjoyed it as a kid. Watching it now, as a 32 year old adult, I didn't realize just how poor the editing was. Being an editor myself, I am really surprised by some of the bad editing in this film. The acting is a mixed bag but could be excusable if the editing helped the movie to move along a bit better. I was even more surprised to see that the editing was done by a veteran editor of Cohen's films! Was the production of this film rushed because of the back-to-back schedule of filming this and Island of the Alive? Anyone have some more details on this? I would love to know.
