Is it necessary to watch Salem's Lot first?

As I just picked this film up for a couple of dollars, but I haven't seen Hooper's Salem's Lot. So I'm just wondering if you really need to watch the original before seeing this film?

Thanks in advance.

You should really be asking yourself: Is it necessary to watch this atrocity?

Did I save my receipt?

What better things could I do with my time? or - Are there other movies that I could watch?

ect ect.

reply

So, i take it you didn't like it.

reply

LOL. :) You could say that.

You know, you'd like to think that basically every *really* bad film ever made was intentionally made that way. ;)

reply

YOU SHOULD JUST SEE IT PERIOD.IT'S WAY BETTER THAN THIS ONE.

This isnt an official sequal at all it doesnt say stephen kings name anywhere and salems lot is one of is books, if you look up larry cohen youll find that this isnt an official sequal he threw out all the main characters and just kept the basic plot.

Hahah I gotta see this, it sounds funny

The only thing I liked about ARTSL is Michael Moriarty's role. He always played interesting characters with attitude. But everything else in this "sequel" is garbage.
I recommend you watch the original and forget this one.

Anyone who is a true "Salem's Lot" fan would watch the origional and then this
would should say that this film is Crap

reply

Well, I'm a "true" Salem's Lot fan, and I say that if you take this film on its own terms (i.e. as a wacky low-budget Larry Cohen movie) and try to forget Hooper's film and the Stephen King connection Warner tried to shove down people's throats, it's actually quite fun. Not great, but worth a watch.

Quit your lying Djsmokingjam your not a true Salem Lot Fan.

yes, you would not understand anything if you don't watch the first movie, you have to know who was Barlow, and Ben Mears, also you have to read the prequel story (a short story talking about the begin of Salem's lot with a Lovercraft style)

nah, I'm joking, but watch the first movie and the book!!

reply

I'm se he's seen it by now, but no it's not neccessary to watch the original first. This is a stand alone film, and honestly it's not really as bad as they say. I saw this before the original, so maybe I enjoyed it more because I wasn't constantly comparing it to the original.

It's an awful, laughably bad film. Even if you view it on its own merit and ignore the fact that it is marketed as a sequel, it is till awful. Just a badly executed mess that could only truly be enjoyed as Mystery Science Theater 3000 fodder.
