DVD?!!!

Anybody think there should be a DVD for fans of this movie. I think so. Any
thoughts???

I saw this movie yesterday . . .

Kinda funny overall but I don't see why they'd make a DVD out of that. Except for Tara Reid and Moriarty, not a lot of big names . . .

I was surprised to see that the guy playing the kid (Ricky Addison Reed) only has been in this movie. He seemed quite talented compared to other kids.

Anyway.

should be DVD if for anything just to compliment or to make a set of 2 also to add to the collection of all stephen king movies. there is only a very few still not on DVD. I do have all that are currently available.

Do you even know what you are talking about wishmaster?? I mean, the flick has absolutely nothing to do with the original, which goes for both the book and film versions. RETURN TO SALEM'S LOT is a sequel in name only, having wasted the whole interesting concept of the first story in favor of creating a completely new take with a completely separate history that is completely divorced from what Mr. Barlowe brought upon the town in King's story. They had the audacity to show Mr. Barlowe himself on the cover poster for this trash, though he is in no way a part of this film or it's self contained history. It shares only the name of a town, which should have been named something else, as well as the film having been named something else. And you want this to be in a special two pack with the original?????? This is not a Stephen King story in any shape, form, or fashion! Why exactly do you think it should be released with other King film adaptations????? This dreck is about as much Stephen King as PET SEMETARY 2 was, but then again at least that flick actually attempted to continue where the original left off, albeit badly!

Something tells me that it will not be a huge seller. It was so intense...I can't bring myself to watch it again. The true horror is that this movie was made.

The IMDb trivia for Tim Burton's 1989 Batman says that, when the original script came in, it had Robin in it and included The Joker and The Penguin as the villains. Ricky Addison Reed was cast as Robin. Weird, huh? I wonder where he went. Maybe losing out on a breakthrough role like that embittered him.

A DVD of this? What for? Even if they printed enough discs for every living fan of "Return to Salem's Lot" in the world to buy 3 copies of the DVD, this total release of 15 DVDs would still be uneconomical.

reply

Please be serious you really mean in the whole world 15 dvds would be needed.10 dvds at the very most.

reply

If Troll 2 can be released to DVD, so can Return to Salem's Lot, which I hope happens soon because I think it's a pretty decent flick and I'd like to have it in my collection.

reply

i haven't seen this one before (or the original or 2004 mini-series for that, but i do have them) but i get the impression this movie (return to salems lot) is kind of like the equivilent to "Pet Semetary two" and Batman and Robin. in short...a sequel in name only but you don't need to see the previous ones to see the "sucky-sequels"

one my friends told me the 2004 Salem's Lot with Rob Lowe was pretty bad too. she highly recommanded the original 1979 one though. i just bought those 2 and Night Flier,

reply

I actually prefered the 2004 version. The original started fantastically, but completely fell apart at the end. The 2004 version is a bit looser of an adaptation, but consistent and gets all the important stuff right while adding a few clever twists of it's own.

Sadly, you're probably about correct.

Go to Criterion and ask them to work on Satyajit Ray films, a good Kwaidan rerelease.

A bunch of Larry Cohen's films have hit dvd in the last year, most with good commentary tracks. While I didn't like the film all that much, I'd pick it up with a commentary.

No offense but I think you (those that like this movie) are all nuts. I just finished watching this movie. The last time I saw it was in theaters when I was 8 years old, which was like 20 years ago and I thought it was great. Back then, I would try to watch anything horror that I could get my hands on. I still love horror, but now I realize this "sequel" is pure garbage. The kid is a terrible actor. Still, there are a couple of creepy scenes, like when the old Nazi-killer's foot is in the trap and the vampires are clawing at him from their coffins in the basement. But that's less than 1% of the movie. The rest is just drivel. At least my wife and I got a good laugh out of it.

As far as a DVD release, they have yet to release THE AFRICAN QUEEN on DVD. I think that classic takes precedent over this travesty.

Just my opinion of course....

reply

Well, I actually like the movie, I love a cheesey flick.
I wouldn't normally have bought it but as mentioned below, I am a stephen king fan, and collect all the Stephen King Dvd's. Although this has no association with Stephen King at all, it is a sequel to one of his stories and I HAVE to have all sequels to anything I own, and it's so annoying that only country in the world with a release is Germany, which means I will have to have a German cover, Please WB's, release it!

Haha I want to see it...

I'd grab it straight away. That's if, it ever gets a DVD release. A Larry Cohen commentary (who always provides compelling and resourceful ones) would be a nice addition. One of my favourite lesser Cohen films.

Oh I would love to see a DVD of this movie. I try to see this movie whenever I get a chance on VHS at my grandfather's house. I don't own a VCR anymore. There are a couple of good moments. When Joe and Van Meer are going through the town and staking any vampire they see. How about a face of holy water and a vampire falling back into it's coffin. Even Tara Reid as a little kid vampire? WHOA? This movie does have some good moments and the ending doesn't suck! If Warner Bros. puts out a DVD of this film they better not screw it up. They did a decent job with the original Salem's Lot. This movie is begging for a DVD release much like Phantasm 2. Bring on the DVD people. MUST HAVE IT! OR I WILL TAKE YOUR SOUL!!!

Its released on dvd in Germany, I have had it on dvd for atleast 1 year.
