Worst zombie movie ever?

I think Redneck Zombies has to be the worst zombie movie in existence.

This claim comes from somebody who has seen nearly every zombie movie ever filmed. Now, I'm not just some fool complaining about zombie movies in general; I have a strong admiration for the genre. In fact, I own O'Bannon's masterpiece, several Fulci's, and my Romero collection is to be admired. While I may not be the most fastidious critic, I do set limits to just how God-awful ones viewing-material should be. The only other movie that comes close in pure wretchedness is Bruno Mattei's cinematographic abortion, Hell of the Living Dead.

So, does anybody else share similar feelings? If there's some other film capable of competing with this garbage, please share so we may all steer clear.

I agree that it sucks hard, but in a hilarious way! I treat not as a zombie movie but as a comedy.

This movie made me sick. It's so bad.

The problem with this film is that it is a zombie/hillbilly/comedy-so it does not stand out in any one genre. I think it basically sums up American film tastes in general.

Zombie 90 Pestilence is MUCH MUCH worse. They don't even compare. Another one which is worse is "Hot Wax Zombies On Wheels" although it is not really a zombie movie. Another bad one is "Erotic Nights of the Living Dead." Redneck is far from the worst, and can actually be entertaining if you can stand to not be completely serious for 90 minutes.

I concur. How can anyone take a film seriously if one of the songs on the soundtrack is called "Love Theme from Redneck Zombies?"

reply

Not the worst by far, i think that honor is reserved for "Zombie Lake".At least Redneck doesn't take itself seriously. I actually really enjoyed it back in 1987, but then again i was as dosed as the colored guy in the zombie autopsy scene, so even my dog was hilarious.

"dead hate the living"? nah ... *great* movie, probably in my zombie top 10, along with (in no particular order) the romero trilogy, the beyond, the dawn remake, shaun of the dead, gates of hell, house by the cemetery & the fog.

Redneck Zombies is my ultimate favorite film. I laughed so hard, raved about it for years, I even rented it for about a month straight and couldn't walk past it without picking it up off the shelf. I guess you have to have that sick twisted mind... THE BEST PART has to be the beginning when the mental patient is wiggin out. Nice to see someone else who likes it. keep watching it, I know I will be!

Bad... maybe. BUT FAR FROM WORST. Try a little film called Stacey and get back to me.

It was an awful, awful movie, and I loved it! It was so completely stupid and disjointed that it seems like something you would hallucinate while in a high fever. It was bad, but entertaining in it's badness, so it's not even close to being the worst zombie film I have ever seen. That dishonor, IMHO goes to Resident Evil. As cruddy as 'Redneck' is, it is thoroughly engrossing in a "can't help staring at a traffic accident" kind of way. RE is simply boring, and also manages to be a complete insult to the intelligence of the film-going public (and nowadays that’s hard to do!). Not to mention that RE is nearly bloodless, while RZ is dripping with gore (very fake low-budget gore, it's true, but even this manages to be "ick" inducing in it's sheer relentlessness). Now compare and contrast on the fact that 'Redneck' was made for $2.75 and 'Resident' cost the equivalent of the GNP of some small nation. I rest my case.
