Damn Near Flawless

It's short, simple, and somewhat obscure, but a favorite treat of mine in the collection of many westerns I have seen. Sam Elliot was always excellent as a latter-day Western actor.

Yeah this was a good movie. I've always enjoyed it more than the "other" Quick and the Dead. And Sam Elliott is good in just about everything he does. But I also liked the rest of the cast in this movie, too. Most notably Tom Conti.

I recently got my hands on a copy of this film, which interestingly enough I found out about by accident while looking for the better-known version of The Quick and the Dead, and I found myself choosing this one over it. I'm hoping to see it soon and based on the good things I've heard about it I'm becomming even more interested.

If Clint Eastwood and Chuck Norris got into a fight, Clint Eastwood would probably win.

Just saw it for the first time, Sam Elliot has the cowboy thing down pat. His performance in Ghost Rider was very similar.

Tim Conti was excellent as well, and I wish he were getting more work internationally. He's a very skilled, intelligent actor. He was nominated once for an Oscar, and then almost complete obscurity until Friends. That's got to be depressing.

Another great western that few people have seen. Far better than most of the crap we are subjected to on a regular basis.

The truth is spoken here.

reply

Agreed. Very good film. Sam Elliott was excellent in his role. Ditto Tom Conti. And Kate Capshaw looked positively ravishing.

One of my favorite Western movies...Fantastic!

I'm shocked that it got the high rating here that it did. I found it incredibly boring -- very simple story, no surprises.

While I enjoyed the movie, I did think it had flaws that were kind of obvious. Particularly where the gang pursuing the family never really presses their advantage, juxtaposed with scenes where the family looks and acts like it hasn't a care in the world. Just leisurely going about their day as they roll slowly along.

The most unbelievable scene is where the big, bad dude goes prowling around their camp and instead of rousing her husband when she hear footsteps, she goes out with a lantern(!) and piece of tree branch(!) and then proceeds to beat the guy into a bloody pulp.

Great movie.

A bit slow here and there but overall a wonderful little gem of a film.

Terrific cast.

And yes, Kate is striking as always.
