James Horner

Reuses music cues from Aliens in this movie. In fact he does it all the time.

I know the exact cue you mean.

Pop 2001 into the player and listen for the original source of the cue.

The guys rips himself off so much that we forget he initially ripped off others.

Who? James Horner? Never!

He's only ever needed to write about 5 or 6 pieces and then just mix them up a bit for each movie he does. Oh, hang on, that's what he did do!

He should get a medal for recycling!

reply

Some of his music in this movie sounds just like the score he did in Honey, I Shrunk the Kids.

Famous trait of James Horner's. A lot of his film scores sound identical (too many to list) to some of his previous or later film scores.

reply

Yea....I mean. I played the score for Apocalypto and then played the Avatar score last year. Some of the notes sound exactly the same. It's really wierd because some of James Horner's work is original and then some of it is recycled. Almost like he was too lazy to write something new or thought he was too good?

The cue in question is an excerpt from the 1942 ballet 'Gayane' by the Armenian composer Aram Khachaturian. Kubrick quoted it in 2001 and Horner has used it in a bunch of his scores.

reply

Many composers do that. John Williams and Hans Zimmer come to mind.
