A few sad and funny moments...

This movie was aired again today and I cry every time I see it. Broke my heart when Virgil was first shown looking scared to death hugging his little stuffed alligator and then when he saw that woman officer. And again later when he was signing for "help" and then left alone in his cage and he let out that soulfully wail. Same when he discovers BlueBeard is dead and starts screaming at the other monkeys. How erie it was watching them one by one stand up in their cages and scream back... And then when he started crying and hugging Broderick because he knew he was going to die. And at the end...poor Goliath....

But what was funny was when Brodrick's roommate was shown reading penthouse and then you suddenly here Brodrick verbally describing how to position your fingers for various signing positions. The expression on that guys face was priceless! And I also loved Goofy's goofy little smile when he was at his simulator and crashed spectacularly. Looks like he wasn't such a dumb ass after all. He somehow sensed that he better not do well at the simulator.

I loved that the rest of themn got away! It's only a movie, I know, but it was a good one, especially for so long ago. I think it might have been Helen Hunts first big one?

It's horrifying but this kind of thing is starting up again. With Obama setting forth on a plan to send men to Mars (in 30 years), NASA has funded a grant that will irradiate squirrel monkeys. Here's a link:

As an animal lover I simply cannot watch this film anymore, I used to love it growing up and it still is a good film but what it depicts is too painful to subject myself to.

One scene in particular breaks my heart in such a profound way that it goes from being merely sad to being outright unpleasant and that's when Virgil is about to be lead to the chamber, he stops and is audibly pleading for Broderick to help because he knows whats about to happen.

Even typing it right now is sort of making me well up a little.
