Vizzini should have known both were poisoned.

Wes could have easily just killed Vizzini. He took down a giant. I'm sure he could have beaten Vizzini, a short fat man armed with a dagger, without a sweat. Why would Wes risk a 50-50 shot when he could easily just kill Vizzini and take Buttercup? He wouldn't. That would be stupid and illogical. He only did the battle of wits because he wanted to look like a suicide.

Vizzini knowing that should have also known that the battle of wits would be set up in a way in which he couldn't possibly win, because what idiot would choose the option that gives you a much smaller chance to win (a 50-50 "true" battle of wits) over the option that gives you a huge chance to win (Wes just killing Vizzini with his sword)?

Vizzini should have just bargained Buttercup for his own life or tried a surprise attack on Wes when he turned his back.

Something tells me that Vizzini wasn't as smart as he thought he was. More of a pompous windbag that liked hearing himself talk.

That would make sense if Westley defined "win" as killing Vizzini and surviving himself.

However, since Westley would only consider it a "win" if he saved Buttercup, and there was no way that he could expect to prevent Vizzini from mortally wounding her in any sword attack, I don't think that logic quite follows.

Even more stupid to really think that Wes would fall for the age old "Look behind you" trick.

reply

Think he did that on purpose cos he knew Vizinni would switch the cups and because he had a tolerance, it won't have mattered.

Because it's a movie. If everything was logical you wouldn't have movies that people like. Sometimes characters have to do something for the benefit of the movie but it may seem illogical. Don't overthink it

Um, because Vizzini had that dagger pressed against Buttercup's throat. If Wesley tried to engage him in a fight, Vizzini would kill her.

Because Vizzini thought he had the advantage.

Can't stop the signal.

Well, at the time, we aren't supposed to know that that is Westley as the Man in Black. We also are not supposed to realize the idea that Westley was immune to the poison and Vizzini never thought that was possible either. To him, it was "inconceivable".
