Gem waiting to be discovered

When you are standing at the video movie shelf bemoaning the fact that you seem to have seen all the good movies 'worth watching then despair no more. This sleeper hit left a lasting impression on this viewer and having come across it again while surfing the net I am definitely getting it out again tomorrow knowing I will enjoy it as much as I did in '87.
The first time I had seen Gary Oldman and Alfred Molina acting(not sure if "Sid & Nancy" was before of after) and I have been fans of them both since, even though Molina is still a "quiet" actor, ( http://us.imdb.com/name/nm0000547/ ) you have probably seen him in most notably 'Boogie Nights', 'Species' and heaps more.Of course Oldman needs no list.
This quirky little flick to remains in the realm of Oh Lucky Man, Withnail & I and other such darkly comedic movies where you really have to prick up your ears to avoid missing less than obvious twists in the plot.
To add to it's depressing finale is the fact it's a true story.

This was, in fact, the first movie in which I'd ever seen Alfred Molina. As with many other cinematic discoveries, I have Siskel & Ebert to thank. Therein lies their true value (well, Ebert's now, anyway).
