I read on wiki that, although Kenneth Halliwell thought Orton was dead by the time he took the pills, Halliwell died first.
Hm. . . makes me a little queasy.

That was indeed the case. Despite his head being smashed in and all the violence, Joe was still alive when Ken died from the overdose.
When their bodies were found, Ken already had rigor mortis but Joe's bed was still warm.
It's the most tragic example of a deep love going wrong.

That's right. What a tragic waste of life. Poor Kenneth was so tortured mentally, but that wasn't not just to do with Joe, who also had his own issues.
