Why bother fighting the Predator?

Why didn't Dutch just cover himself in mud and then run to da choppa? The Predator wouldn't have been able to see him. Did Dutch just want revenge for the deaths of his comrades?

reply

Revenge. Plain & Simple

reply

Dutch IS the predator here.

reply

He was in "fuck you" mode and had enough.

The trapped rat bites the cat, is a Chinese saying.

It means that if you make a small opponent feel like you are going to destroy him, he might freak out and surprise you.

reply

I have to agree that from a military strategic point of view, it makes zero sense.
He should have left and returned with an army and a load of powerful weapons, all cloaked in mud
BUT
He also is pissed off and he is a fighter, so he won't just escape the fight.
And also, he realizes that this enemy now has a huge disadvantage: now Dutch can turn the tables and be the invisible one! So he just takes his chances and instead of regrouping, he fights till there's only one man standing.

reply

His entire team, basically every true friend he had in the world, had been systematically slaughtered right in front of him, and the killer was now hunting him. He'd already seen the bodies of the last team to come into that jungle. He knew if he left, he'd probably never have as good a chance of killing the enemy as he did at that moment. He'd caught it off guard, and for the first time, he had the advantage. I always thought of it as the moment the role of Predator is reversed. Dutch was going to finish the creature off, and not give it time to regroup or escape.

reply

Damn straight!!

reply

He realized that the Predator was killing what it deemed to be worthy prey. And he had been left for last, so he knew that the Predator considered him the big prize. So being the proud warrior that he was, he accepted the challenge and stayed to fight. Also he probably figured he owed it to his men to either avenge their deaths, or die with them.

reply

The film would have ended on 1 hour making it almost a short with no resolution to the story.

Or he knew he couldn't escape without it killing him and/or revenge like someone above said.

Why didn't John McClane in Die Hard sneak out of the building and alert the cops.

Boom, 30 minute movie.

reply

Why didn't Gandalf ask the eagles to carry the ring.

reply

That ruined the whol series for me.

Everytime I saw Gandalf on screen I was thinking. "Why?" There shouldn't be a Story. I think Tolkien should rip out all of the pages, burn them and rewrite everything.

Page 1. Gandalf gave the bird a ring. The End.

reply

Getting on an eagle would give Sauron an easy view of where the Ring was they’re inevitably spotted. Or the ring would just corrupt the eagle and it would fly straight to Sauron.

reply

McClane couldn't sneak out because the building was closed in/shut off and the terrorists had 100% control of the buildings infrastructure, they clearly show this at the beginning of the film when they lock all the doors down.

reply

Here's the building. Fox Plaza in L.A.

https://www.google.com/maps/@34.055079,-118.4139789,3a,75y,104h,98.29t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sLt4794vcDfmdhPWuSEsPog!2e0!7i16384!8i8192?hl=en-GB

Im sure there would be loads of service doors, fire escapes, ways into the basement, generator rooms with exits. Even without that McClane could have probably snuck into the foyer and took that lone bad guy out easy.

reply

Yeah maybe he could've took out that guy in the foyer but it would've been risky, he didn't really know how many there really were sneaking around. How do we know the fire escapes/generator rooms weren't locked down as well? Theo was in total control of the building's infrastructure(that's why Han's hired him) and it seems like the entire building's security system was run all through a computer which was pretty high tech for it's time. IDK it still seems McClane was pretty fucked.

reply

Plus McClane's wife was still in the building and he wanted to get her out.

reply

Because his wife was one of the hostages.

reply

For the same reason Dutch and Dillon had that arm strength test at the beginning of the film to prove whos strongest.
These guys train to kill, that's their job their life.
Was no way Dutch was gonna let a prissy little fish faced mfcker get the better of him.

Plus what a shit end to a film that would of been with no final face off, oh yeah look at me running away to da choppaaaa!
