Billy's laugh

In the scene where Mac had just killed the boar thinking it was the Predator and then Poncho made the smart-ass remark to Mac, Billy can be heard laughing heartily in the background. I always thought that his laugh at that moment was a bit out of place given the grim situation they were in. Do you think that the laugh was unintentional on Sonny's part and the director just decided to keep it in the film instead of reshooting the scene?

Just gallows humour, really. Typical soldiers.

True dat. I'm sure these guys have seen a lot more gruesome and horrifying things in their military careers, not to mention they just wiped an entire squad of guerrilla's as if it was nothing so they're numbed to the morbid realities of war and violence. This may have been intentional on McTeirnan's behalf but I doubt it, it was more likely a cheap macho joke that they threw into the script.
