When is the Director's Cut going to get release on DVD: Region 2?

According to Mike Hodges biography: Get Carter and Beyond, his 1987 film Prayer For The Dying is going to have the director's cut release on DVD. I'm wondering does anyone know when that going to happen? In the biography, Hodges express on how he was unhappy with the theatrical release.

I have seen the theatrical release on video. I reckon the film had some ambition of being a damn good film, but it doesn't hit the target. My problem with film was the music by Bill Conti was too melodramatic. Originally the composer was John Scott who later compose Hodge's next film Black Rainbow. The editing was over the place in some scenes. What I am asking is there going to be a director's cut?

Alright Lotus Scrum,

You have a good point, most director's cut aren't worth the money: Terminator 2. Then again Blade Runner became a even better film because of it. My point is that the cut that was released wasn't Mike Hodges cut and that he disowned the film. Mickey Rourke who I thought made an ambitious performance as Martin Fallon, also disowned the film. They both said in interviews that it wasn't the film they made.

Mike Hodges already got his cut of the film.

I understand the money thing, but still like to see a director's cut of APFTD.

I noticed that APFTD has now got its release DVD. I doubt that it the director's cut as I still noticed that it still got Bill Conti as composer on the back of DVD cover. Another question I like to ask is how come most MGM Region 2 release don't have extras like trailer whereas Region 1 has?

It heared that the Director's cut of this flawed cut of A Prayer For The Dying isn't going to see the light of day. It's a real shame as I like the original for the performance of Mickey Rourke I thought he was underrated in this film but the pacing of the film is the problem.

Sorry not to have better news for you on this side of the pond. Does not look like we will see the DC for a while yet (never give up hope, look at that Metropolis footage recently discovered). Thanks for caring about the film enough to keep coming back to the ol' imdb to post a comment or three. I appreciate it, even if some deleted commentators do not.

I am NOT the "real" Peter Judson.

I actually think this film isn't bad as people says it is. Mickey Rourke in my opinion is underrated in this role. I like to like see the director version along with Mike Hodges underrated classic The Terminal Man.

Has anyone heard any updates about this? The director's cut sounds great reading about it and I'd love to see it, no matter what Region DVD it is. Mickey is back and the public loves Mickey!

Please release this, MGM!

Sadly the director's cut never happened. Which is a shame as I like this film even with its theatrical cut flaws. I still like to see the director's cut.

The film has fundamental issues in casting and writing and although Hodges is a good director, any post-production problems were just icing on the cake.
