best one of the whole series

'nuff said. I mean, the skateboarders, the theme song, the chemistry, the whole mix is awesome.

Actually growing up, this one and 2 were my favorites.

Rocky VI must happen! Sean Penn said so!

To me, the 1st and 4th are certainly the best of the series. 5 and 6 don't have Guttenberg and thus are automatically DQed (though I like those better than most people..and I'm ignoring 7 was ever made). 2 and 3 had Mauser instead of Harris, which was never as good as Harris/Mahoney in the 1st and 4th films.

I think the first has more social commentary in it in terms of racism and sexism, more to say. But I also think the 4th has what is pretty close to the definitive P.A. lineup: Guttenberg, Smith, Graf, Winslow, Easterbrook, Ramsey, and toss in Goldthwait and Kazurinsky, the Japanese guy, etc. And of course the usuals like Harris, Proctor and Lassard.

As much as I like the first film, there are some failed experiment characters. Leslie Barbara for instance did nothing for me, and thus he wasn't in the sequels, but yet he gets quite a bit of screen time. Martin as well was a fairly pointless character, especially after revealing he wasn't really a Latino. Where can you go with that character then? Feckler (sp?) is another character that lasted for a few films and even returned in the 6th, but never did much for me.

4 has the best lineup in the series. It's about as good as the series gets.

I agree with everything you have said! Best cast out of all the flicks and Bobcat totally steals the show. It's my favorite of all the flicks.

cabbageboy316,i wondered why those characters you mentioned, leslie barbara,feckler,e.t.c,werent in many more of the sequels, and some werent in any of the sequels.I dont know if it's because the writers didnt know what to do with those characters anymore,or if the actors who played them didnt want to return.

Also,Kim Catrall is another one who didnt return after the first film. That would have been because she moved on to do other things, but i wonder if it's also because they couldnt use her character for the sequels too ?.

The first movie in most franchises can nver be topped, mostly because we never knew what to expect the first time. With that said,I'd have to agree the first Police Academy was the best, and the following 3 sequels,I thought were good for being your usual run-of-the mill sequels.

I agree! I can go back to this movie over and over and still get laughs even now. Bobcat really comes forth as one of the main comedy sources here, but there's so much more. Hell, it even was a bit of a throwback to the first movie with the semi-nudity (Leslie Easterbrook in the pool). I love this movie.

It's the third best. Obviously the original is the best one. No contest about it. Part 2 is second best. Then part 4. Being back Harris was great. He should have been back for part 2. The mix of characters in this one was perfect. I'm glad they kept Zed and Schwechuck around.

Yes! This was the first Police Academy movie I saw as a kid and made me fall in love with the series. It is the peak of the franchise I think. The first one is good too but Citizens On Patrol was just a great concept, well executed.

This is probably my personal favorite, but the first is also an amazingly good '80s slobs vs. snobs comedy, in the class of Caddyshack, The Blues Brothers, and Airplane!.
