They were focusing a lot on the credit cards at the first hotel they were at. It clearly shows the manager mixing up the two credits cards and giving them back without them noticing. It is never brought up again to my knowledge. Was this a mistake or deliberately done, b/c it has always confused me.,..
Wasn't brought up again?? It was the crux of several scenes later in the movie. Del almost kills them by driving the wrong way on the freeway, then his lit cigarette causes the rental car to incinerate. Neal thinks it's funny because Del's on the hook for the cost of the car, but Del is forced to admit that he used Neal's credit card to rent the car. He thought that Neal had put it in his wallet out of "kindness"! Later, at the hotel, Neal's so angry that he refuses to allow Del to share his room so Del's forced to sleep in the snowy parking lot until Neal finally has a change of heart, allows him in the room, and from then on they're nothing but friends.
All of that hinged on their credit cards getting mixed up.
LOL, oh I forgot about that. I was watching it aghain ands havent got that far yet. Well why does he get mad at del in the first place it was the managers fault
I don't even think they all knew it happened. I didn't really think it was the manager's fault. He processed the cards and then set them back on the counter. Neal took Del's and didn't even look at it.
At the hotel Del picks up Neal's Diner's Club Card and Neal picks up Del's Overnight Discount Card (which is never seen again). They go through the next day with each other's cards. I am assuming that during their time in Wichita, Stubbsville, Jefferson City and St. Louis Neal is using his Visa because if he had attempted to use his Diner's he would have noticed the switch. I am also assuming that Del noticed when they got to Stubbsville because he asked for Neal's address (perhaps he was going to use Neal's card until he got some money and then mail it back to him????). Neal also probably noticed the charred remains of Del's overnight card when he got his wallet out of the glove compartment but by that point even if Del didn't steal it he had a right to be pissed because Del used his card to rent a card and then didn't tell him when he had the chance.
It has also been brought up that the reason V-5 was empty was because Del had already gotten Neal's car because he used Neal's credit card. That actually isn't true because the guy tell's Neal that V-5 is a "white lincoln town car" and Neal is not driving that, he is driving the Family Truckster.
