This Movie Sucks!

I hate everything about this movie, the cast, especially that bitch Pippi, crew, the screenplay, plot, and the goddamn soundtrack. This is a terrible excuse for a movie or a musical. Whoever gave the OK for this *beep* should be shot. I like bad movies just like the next person, but this film, no filth, tries to be a legitimate piece of entertainment and it ultimately fails. Thank you for reading my critique. I hope you all feel the same way.

reply

I don't feel that way. I thought it was a great movie.

What ever happened to Faye Wray? That delicate, satin draped frame...

reply

This was one of my favorite movies as a child. OK, maybe that changed my perspective and maybe I didn't see many movies as a child... but I still love it.

I would also have to dissagree with ya quint (your post was pretty funny by the way) pippi longstalkings and punky brewster were the first two white girls i ever fell in love with (can you imagine a threesome with those two?? lol) but serious talking, all the inngredients that make a kid movie great are in this movie i probably watched it 100 times and i'd watch it again if i could. This is perhaps not a grown-up type movie and perhaps not a movie of today, but this is definately a GOOD movie and i'd gladly recomend it to anyone.

Oh just one more thing.

Bad movies??How do you determine a bad movie? For your sake i hope you dont let the BOX OFFICE decide for you cause man, you'd be missin out on some good quality S#!t

reply

No, the box ofice doesn't decide whether I choose if a movie is good or bad. This movie is just terrible all the way around. When I said i like bad films, I am saying they are so bad that they are entertaining. This film is not at all entertaining!

I like any movie that is entertaining. Whether it is bad or good is my judgement and is not influenced by critics or box office. For example, I really enjoy the movie "Clifford" (1991), which was universally panned by critics and did terribly at the box office.

Check the trivia for clifford (1991) and they will tell you that it was filmed in 1991, but wasnt released until 1994 due to Orion Picture going bankrupt. To me and i assume most people, the film was made and 1991 and probably would have been released the same year.

Yes, yes I can.

yo mamma <---an equally intelligent response to this pathetic excuse for an opinion

I actually do agree. NO Matter HOW much the general public asks & wants for it, some production companies are NOT getting the idea to do movie sequels

I agree that this movie sucks. As a HUGE fan of the Swedish Pippi, I was excited to see an American version come out. I was about 6 years old when it came out. It was a huge disappointment. I literally left the theater crying and was unconsoleable for the remainder of the afternoon. It was that bad.

In the original movies Pippi was spunky, courageous, and acted in ways that all children want to act, but can't. She was a true adventurer. The American version watered the character down and made her more cutesy and appealing to adults. I admit, the original Pippi was a horrible influence on children (I myself wouldn't show those movies to kids), but the new Pippi was an insult to true Pippi fans. Pippi doesn't cry! Pippi makes flying cars, travels to far off islands, tames bulls, walks a tightrope between the tallest buildings in the city, and somehow manages to get permission from Tommy & Annika's parents to take them on long and dangerous trips.

Watch the originals. The show was made in the 60's and the movies came out in the late 60's-early 70's. They're in Swedish, but you can find them dubbed in English and many other languages. There's a set of English DVDs that came out a few years ago.

Pippi doesn't cry!

She did in the original books!

She came very close to crying when:

-Mrs. Settergren yelled at her for disrupting her guests and misbehaving at her coffee party. (Chapter 9, "Pippi Goes to a Coffee Party," in the first book, PIPPI LONGSTOCKING)

-Pippi found a dead baby bird, and Tommy and Annika noticed that Pippi's eyes were red with tears, but Pippi, quickly maintaining composure, claimed that she never cries. (Chapter 4, "Pippi Goes to the School Picnic," in the second book, PIPPI GOES ON BOARD)

But she *really* cried up a storm in Chapter 5 of PIPPI GOES ON BOARD ("Pippi Goes to the Fair"), when she, Tommy, and Annika went to the town fair; one of the attractions they went to was a tragic stage play about a woman whose husband and children were missing, and a villain who would sneak up to her and kill her. Pippi took it so seriously that she really cried, sobbed, and called out to the heroine on stage (almost getting her into trouble!), but in a move that gives Mary Sue a run for her money, Pippi goes up on the stage, beats up the villain, and assures the heroine that her children will return one day, and she'll find another husband. Pippi walked out and the audience applauded, as they thought it was part of the show! Pippi thought the play was too sad, so before she, Tommy, and Annika continued with the town fair, they stopped off somewhere to eat, and Pippi says, "Crying always makes me feel so hungry!"

(ADDENDUM: Needless to say, she cries in later chapters of PIPPI IN THE SOUTH SEAS. My favorite moment was in the chapter, "Pippi Talks Sense to a Shark," where Tommy was almost eaten by a shark on Kurekuredutt Island; his leg was scraped by the shark's teeth, only for Pippi to grab the shark in the nick of time, and lifted it in the air, telling it to leave Tommy alone! When Pippi threw the shark back in, the frightened shark never came back. A shaken Tommy safely got onto a rock, where Pippi hugged him, and then she covered her face and cried, to everyone's surprise! When asked by one of the native children why she cried, he suspected, and very rightly so, that it was because Tommy almost got eaten; but of course, Pippi lies, saying it's because the shark never got his breakfast!)

Incidentally, I personally love both the Swedish series and the American movie. (I've seen bits and pieces of the original Swedish version of the TV series, and I really think it's best viewed in that language, also because the original Swedish samba theme, sung by series star Inger Nilsson, is made of awesomeness! One day, someone should release the complete original Swedish series and the two original theatrical movies, PIPPI IN THE SOUTH SEAS and PIPPI ON THE RUN, with English subtitles!)

OK, sorry about the crying comment. I'm sure that I meant that the original Pippi didn't cry the way they made the new Pippi cry. The American Pippi cried in the orphanage.I feel certain that the Swedish Pippi would have skipped that scene and gone right into a scene where she pulls some silly pranks on the adults and escapes.

I have the books, although I haven't read them since I was a child.

Anyway, it's nice to see another fan of the Swedish originals.

They had such high hopes for the movie and despite the hype, it failed miserably.
