Jamestown is not the first American colony

So I'm watching the film and RDJr's character asks a young kid what the first American colony is and the kid respons "Jamestown, 1607."

Not true.

The first is actually St. Augustine in Florida established by the Spanish.

Heck, Jamestown is not even the first English colony! That was Roanoke.

Sorry that just bugged me.

But it is the first permenant English settlement and it is the one that is stressed the most in history classes. Roanoke is only briefly discussed in history classes if at all, especially at that grade level.
