What happens next? (the rest of the book)

As far as I know, the movie was based on the first chapter of the novel, so, if there's anybody who has already read the book, what happens to Pelle after the movie finishes? I think there are 3 chapters not included in this fantastic movie. So, does anybody knows how the story goes beyond the film? In other post they say that in chapter 2 he becomes apprentice of a shoemaker or something like that, but no mention to the rest of the book. I'd really appreciate if somebody could tell briefly the rest of the story.

Thanks for your answer

Pelle the Conqueror is a coming of age novel. In part 2, 3 and 4 Pelle moves from being innocent and curious child to being a grown up empathetic idealist.

Pelle moves to the big city. He starts his own business creating employment for other people. Also he becomes a spokesperson for the working class and he is one of those people - pardon my biased nationalism ;) - that lays the Foundation for the solidaric, liberal and equal society that Denmark is today:

He becomes a leading unionist and as you may know the scandinavian welfare states are hugely indebted to the workings of the unions throughout the last century as foreseen in the novel.

The novel is written in 1906-10 and the writer inspired the struggle of the working class portrayed in the movie, but he never first handedly witnessed the impressive progression of the Nordic countries that today has eliminated all poverty shown in part one and two with a present minimum wage of 16$ an hour, free top class education and healthcare plus monthly unemployment benefits of 2200$ after all taxes are deducted.

I hope Martin Andersen Nexø is smiling down at us from up above.
