I was wondering the same thing. It's like they're saying, "hey, look at this guy, how about that performance? Was it Oscar worthy or what?"

Probably because's he's the most established actor in the cast. He was already in most of Ingmar Bergman's classics, The Emigrants and The Exorcist by that point. He might have agreed to have taken the role if they emphasized him in the credits.
