A candidate for top 10 depressing films of all time?

It is a beautiful film in every way, a masterpiece.
But what do you guys think, do you get superdepressed of the bleak reality of out 2 main characters. The film feels almost devoid of hope at the end.

I have rated over 3000 films on IMDB and no other film hits me right in the gut like this one.
