if it really happened

It would not be a comedy. It would be a terrifying case of... Well I don't know what exactly it would be termed, but there's a lot that would be considered wrong and unethical and creepy.

I was actually just saying to my husband tonight that someone should remake this as a horror movie.

Don't get me wrong, I love Overboard and it's one of my favorite movies of all time!! I don't want to ruin it by being "that person" that gets "offended" by it, but yeah, with the way the world is now we think of things differently and this would be absolutely terrifying in reality.

It's an amazing film, but would be so wrong if it really happened!

Goldie's character could be like a Jason Bourne.

I like the idea of revamping the movie into a horror or psychological thriller.

I don't want to ruin it by being "that person" that gets "offended" by it, but yeah, with the way the world is now we think of things differently and this would be absolutely terrifying in reality.

Even back then, there were laws for false imprisonment, rape, fraud, etc. The only difference is, this movie was a comedy, and so certain "crimes" were overlooked for the humor. Many movies did this, Porky's, Revenge of the Nerds, Animal House, etc. Many pranks were either sex offenses, rape, assault and battery, and I'm sure a whole lot of other things.

It's not like things were different back then and these things weren't considered crimes. Even today, we use find humor in movies that are crimes in reality.

Take putting Visine in somebody's drink. In the movies, it causes uncontrollable diarrhea. In reality, it causes lung failure and is considered poison. People thinking they are pranking an evil boss, or their teacher, end up in jail with felony charges when they realize TV and reality aren't one in the same.

So I don't think you're being "that" person, if you point out that this movie in reality is really more of a tragic case of a felony than a comedy of romance. But at same time, movies have then and still do, portray "crimes" as humor and we the audience just give it a pass because we'd rather be entertained than have a stick in our butt.
